The short-term and creep mechanical behaviour of clayey soil-geocomposite drainage layer interfaces subjected to environmental loadings

In this paper, to investigate the impact of environmental loadings on short-term and creep mechanical characteristics different types clayey soil-Geocomposite Drainage Layers (GDL) interfaces, a series rapid loading shear tests were conducted Mercia Mudstone Clay-GDL interfaces Kaolin subjected drying-wetting cycles, thermal cycles elevated temperature, etc, using bespoke temperature stress-controlled large direct apparatus. The experimental results indicate that, compared with original specimens, have lower peak strength resistance. For example, under 25 kPa normal stress, falls by 11.91% 10.11%, respectively, when 1 cycle. This can be ascribed weakening interlocking effects skin friction between soil GDL caused softening drainage core geotextile fibres GDL. soil-GDL one cycle is than that because reduction in above during cycles. drying alone decrease heating small, main influence factor temperature.
